How to Create a MySQL Database using cPanel
Create the MySQL Database
Log in to your new cPanel account:
The hosting account information email you received will have a link to your new cPanel application. If you have never had a hosting account before, cPanel is simply a user interface that allows you to manager your new hosting account. Much more information on cPanel can be found in the cPanel User Guide Documentation
For now, we simply need to create a MySQL database on your new hosting account for the purpose of gathering page view statistics on your online advertisements.
You can start this process by logging in to your new cPanel using the URL Address link found in your hosting account email e.g. http://gator-nnn-.hostgator.com/cpanel Click on this link and enter your username and password which is also provided in this same email. Once logged in, you will see the following screen:
There are many different options in cPanel. Right now, we just need the "MySQL Databases" option which is toward the bottom of the cPanel screen. Scroll down until you see it, then double-click on the icon:
The very first item of information required is the name of the new database. The name is not important - just need to remember it. Use the example "MyAds" if desired, the click the "Create Database" button:
A confirmation screen will then display, showing you the name of the new database. Click the "Go Back" link to return to the previous screen:
Note: When creating a MySQL database, and database user information, your hosting account username will be added as a prefix to your entered name.
Next step is to create the database user and password. Enter the desired username and password. For the password it is recommended that you generate a strong password by clicking on the "Generate Password" button. Click the "User Password" to continue:
A confirmation message will display with the password you generated:
Click the "Create User" button:
A confirmation message will display indicating the database user has been created. Click the "Go Back" link to continue:
Add the new user to the database with All Privileges, click the "Make Changes" button to continue:
A confirmation message will display indicating that the new user has been added to the database. Click the "Go Back" link to continue:
The new database user will display next to the new database name in the Current Databases display:
Save the following new Database information so that it can be entered in the Advertiser Helper software
- Database Name
- Database User Name
- Database Password (Write this down or copy/paste to a text file during generation - it's not visible after this completes)
